The Shanghai Imported Goods Festival, with the theme of "Embracing the CIIE (China International Import Expo) and shopping around the world", was launched at Greenland Global Commodity Trading Hub on May 5.

As an important part of the May 5 Shopping Festival, the imported goods festival will run through the second quarter of this year. Nearly 20 leading enterprises with more than 500 offline stores and more than 40 online platforms will participate in the festival, providing Shanghai people with a shopping feast.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people going abroad recently decreased sharply, and the festival has become an important bridge between overseas commodities, domestic enterprises and local consumers.

"We want to provide Shanghai consumers with quality goods at affordable prices," said Tomoaki Komori, managing director of Shanghai Takashimaya Co, a department store chain in Japan.

During the festival, Takashimaya will show a series of hand-made products made by Japanese craftsmen, some of which will be sold at a 50 percent discount.

According to the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, 55 import commodity series activities will be held during the imported goods festival, including 39 import commodity themed activities and 16 national commodity week activities.
