The 4th Bangkok-Shanghai Economic Conference – with the theme "Bio, Circular, Green" – was held in the city of Shanghai in East China on Aug 24.

The conference – initiated by the Thai Consulate-General in Shanghai and co-organized by the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board – aimed to further promote commerce and trade between Thailand and Shanghai, as well as cooperation with other regions in the Yangtze River Delta in the field of green development.

Zhu Yi, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, told the conference that last year the total value of trade between Shanghai and Thailand was 62.46 billion yuan ($9.67 billion).

Thailand invested in 13 new enterprises in Shanghai, with a total actual investment of $29.14 million, up 109.8 percent year-on-year, while seven enterprises in Shanghai invested in Thailand, with registered investment totaling $18.58 million, Zhu said.

She pointed out that the industrial development of Shanghai and Thailand were highly complementary and noted the progress being made by the RCEP – the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership – trade bloc agreement, to which China and Thailand are signatories.

Zhu said that with it, the two sides would have more commercial opportunities in high-tech, high-end manufacturing, artificial intelligence, smart cities, health care and in other fields.

Lada Phumas, Thailand's consul-general in Shanghai, expressed her hope that the conference would facilitate research and development cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation between the two to achieve mutual benefit.
