A marketing and promotional activity to enable Japanese firms in Shanghai in East China to learn about the attractive business environment and opportunities to be found in the city's Yangpu district was held on Aug 27.

The activity – co-organized by the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board, the Yangpu district commission of commerce and the Japan External Trade Organization Shanghai Office – aimed to encourage Japanese enterprises to invest in the district.

A total of 33 principals and representatives of Japanese institutions and Japanese enterprises operating in Shanghai attended the activity.

Zhao Liang, deputy head of Yangpu district, told the event that it had a sound business environment with abundant space, ample access to human resources with the number of colleges and universities in the area, as well as a great ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation.

In 2020, the number of registered invention patents per 10,000 people in the district was 86, while there were 742 national high-tech enterprises based in the district, according to Zhao.

Zhu Yi, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, said that next year marked the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic ties. She added that the development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries would usher in a new era and Shanghai would provide more accurate and effective services for Japanese companies.

During the activity, the delegation visited the Yangpu Binjiang People's Urban Construction Planning Exhibition Hall and looked into online new economy enterprises that are located in Yangpu.
