Shanghai makes breakfast more convenient for locals
The Shanghai municipal government has reportedly stepped its drive to make breakfast even more accessible for residents of the East China city.
The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce unveiled the 2021 breakfast project plan earlier, which set out that 1,120 new breakfast sites would be added in Shanghai by the end of the year.
The commission recently released a list of 227 breakfast demonstration sites, among the established breakfast sites.
The sites – covering 19 districts in the city – are mainly located near large residential areas, commercial buildings, industrial parks, medical and educational clusters as well as public transport hubs.
According to officials, 95 percent of the sites are chain breakfast stores and convenient stores with a breakfast service.
Meanwhile, with the development of digitalization, breakfast pick-up lockers that support online pre-ordering and mobile self-service breakfast vans are also developing rapidly.
Adapting to the actual situation in the different regions, it is said that the breakfast service will be flexible.
Officials said that to become a demonstration breakfast site, several conditions must be met. Those include having traceable origins for products, with affordable prices and a wide range of breakfast choices.
Shanghai was designated by the Ministry of Commerce as a pilot city for the National Breakfast Demonstration Project in 2011.
The project aims to improve the quality of life and make high-quality breakfast options more accessible to the general public.
