Two world-renowned enterprises Sumitomo Pharma from Japan, and Laduree from France established branches in Huangpu district, East China's Shanghai, showcasing that Huangpu is still one of the most attractive destinations for foreign investors in Shanghai, despite the impacts of the recent COVID-19 outbreak in the city.

Sumitomo Pharma, founded in 1984 in Japan, entered the Chinese market in the 1990s, and introduced many internationally advanced production technologies to China, providing Chinese patients with high-quality products and medical solutions for the central nervous system, anti-infection, and cardiovascular and digestive tracts, which have helped a large number of patients over the years.

The company has established a large-scale production base in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, and set up affiliated agencies in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, as well as a research and development system, and a nationwide marketing network.

According to official data released by Pharm Exec’s annual listing of the top global biopharma enterprises, Sumitomo Pharma ranked 36th globally with a total sales revenue of $4.6 billion and investments for research and development amounting to $869 million.

In order to integrate the shareholding structure and strengthen compliance management, the company decided to establish a new investment company in China.

French luxury bakery and sweets producer Laduree launched its first China store in the bustling Xintiandi business district in Huangpu, and it plans to open more chain stores in Shanghai to attract more consumers.

Laduree was established in France in 1862. The world famous brand not only offers diners delicious desserts, but also emphasizes the appearance and packaging of its products. Every year, Laduree invites famous fashion designers to design the packaging of its desserts. The macarons produced by Laduree have become a calling card of the brand, which are often called the nobility of desserts.
