Of that, 417,000 electric vehicles worth 86.2 billion yuan were exported – remarkable year-on-year increases of 92.5 percent and 115.5 percent, respectively.

That's the result of a series of streamlined customs clearance services that have been rolled out to ensure that Shanghai Port remain top of the country's auto export facilities.

Exports of new energy vehicles from Chinese independent brands such as BYD ranked among the best. What's more, the export destinations have moved from Latin America and Africa to high-end markets – including Europe, the US and Australia – according to Wang Jia, chief of Waigaoqiao Port Customs Inspection Section Nine.

Wang added that the European Union, the UK and Australia were the top three countries and regions in the export of electric vehicles. Countries such as Belgium, the UK and Slovenia have become soaring markets for Chinese cars, with the value of their exports increasing by over 100 percent year on year during the first 10 months of 2022.
