New opportunities in e-commerce at Shanghai's Coffee Port
The State Council, China's Cabinet, approved in October of last year the establishment of a pilot zone for Silk Road e-commerce cooperation in Shanghai to promote openness in the e-commerce sector.
Over the past year, significant progress has been made on the initiative, particularly at the Hongqiao International Coffee Port, where exciting new business models are emerging.
One standout figure is Huang Junhao, founder of "Teacher Cha's Coffee Universe". As a leading influencer in the coffee industry with 18 years of experience, he has hosted over 30 live broadcasts, selling more than 30,000 bags of coffee beans. His broadcasts bridge the gap between consumers and coffee producers, offering insights into the origins of beans, such as those from Ethiopia, and highlighting the unique climate and geography of their growing regions.
Since launching in April, Huang has found the coffee port to be a treasure trove for sourcing high-quality beans. His neighbor, Addis Coffee, a well-known Ethiopian coffee exhibitor, has set up shop at the port, facilitating efficient logistics and boosting sales.
The easing of customs procedures and reduced tariffs on Ethiopian coffee have further boosted imports and sales. Currently, 58 companies operate at the Hongqiao International Coffee Port, including 20 from Silk Road partner countries. This rich ecosystem not only enhances product quality but also enriches consumer experiences, with fresh coffee delivered straight from source to cup.
