Shanghai's e-commerce success reflects excellent integration of online and offline shopping

The e-commerce transaction scale of Shanghai ranks second among provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China, second only to Guangdong province. Shanghai has always taken the lead among other Chinese metropolises, according to the Shanghai Commission of Commerce.

Deep integration of online and offline purchasing has enabled "Shanghai shopping" to become more and more popular. Statistics from the Shanghai Commission of Commerce show that from January to September 2019, the transaction volume of e-commerce in Shanghai reached 2.44 trillion yuan ($346.6 billion), an increase of 16.1 percent year-on-year.

With the B2B advantages of Shanghai e-commerce expanding, in that same period, B2B transaction volume reached 1.47 trillion yuan, up 9.1 percent year-on-year. Among those, the B2B scale of steel transactions continues to take the lead nationwide.

The e-commerce life service in Shanghai has distinctive features of innovation and integration. Among the top 20 fresh e-commerce enterprises in China, there are nine in Shanghai, and their turnover has increased by 200 percent year-on-year.

The deep integration of online and offline shopping has also injected strong momentum into the transformation of traditional business. The commercial departments at the two levels in downtown Shanghai fully support transformation from the traditional business circle to the smart business circle. The pedestrian streets and large commercial complexes in the central city are actively carrying out digital transformation in record analysis of consumer behavior, shopping point exchanges and virtual reality shopping guides.
