The first national key laboratory of ultra-high definition video and audio was launched in Shanghai on Dec 6.

Relying on Shanghai's scientific and technological innovation, software and hardware environment, as well as its first-class educational and scientific research resources, the laboratory will make full use of the achievements of the media, communication and information technology revolution to build a leading research and application demonstration base for video and audio media integration technology.

The lab will carry out basic research as well as application demonstration and practice in the three research directions of key technologies of UHD video and audio production and broadcasting systems, video and audio media communication technology and key technologies of video and audio service security.

Built by China Media Group (CMG) in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Academy of Broadcasting Planning of the National Radio and Television Administration, the laboratory will concentrate on end-to-end advanced video and audio technology -- especially UHD video and audio, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence technology.

In addition, the laboratory signed cooperation agreements with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and CMG to cultivate a group of high-level young academic leaders and technical talents for the industry and build an international first-class innovative talent training platform.
