The 8th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF) will be held from April 16 to 18 in 2020 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.

Shanghai is making steady progress in its quest to become a leading global innovation center due to the municipal government's policies. The upcoming event will roll out a serious of display areas including a "guest of honor" cities exhibition area and a science and technology innovation exhibition area.

The introduction of "guest of honor" cities has been a bold trial of the CSITF. The 8th event has initialized a new approach in inviting such cities, as the previous ones invited only cities of developed countries and regions as special guests. This year's event adopts a "two-wheel drive mode", inviting cities of both developed countries and developing countries in a bid to introduce advanced technology from developed countries and to help Chinese enterprises to "go out".

To date, Osaka, Japan and Upper Austria, Austria have join the list of the "guest of honor" cities in terms of developed countries.

Globally, the level and basis of scientific and technological development varies from one country to another. Some countries have solid basic research, some have relatively mature basic technologies or experiences, and some have less developed technologies.

Currently, China boasts advanced technologies that benefit people's livelihoods and can be used in some developing countries to improve people's lives and accelerate economic development.

In order to achieve the 8th China CSITF goal, a targeted initiative will introduce China's advanced technology to countries with similar needs and invite more developing countries' enterprises as exhibitors. For example, the CSITF will invite the state of Jalisco in central Mexico as a "guest of honor" city to trigger wider use of scientific research from China and help Chinese enterprises find a good market.
