Zhangjiang sets goal for sci-tech innovation hub
Zhangjiang Science City, Shanghai's science and technology hub, saw seven of its enterprises listed on the science and technology innovation board and construction start on 44 major projects in 2019.
Zhangjiang Science City made great achievements and many technological breakthroughs in integrated circuits (IC), biological medicine and artificial intelligence (AI) last year.
The emergence of innovation results cannot be separated from the excellent innovation environment in Zhangjiang.
At present, more than 200 chip design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, and equipment materials enterprises have settled in Zhangjiang, making it the most complete region in the domestic IC industry chain.
Being located in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, the first pilot area for AI innovation and application in China, Zhangjiang already had the IBM Shanghai headquarters, the Microsoft AI and IoT Insider Lab and the Alibaba Shanghai research and development (R&D) center on its island.
According to officials, Zhangjiang will give full play to the advantages of the independent innovation demonstration zone and free trade zone, focus on key basic work such as large scientific facilities, national laboratories and research-oriented universities, and break through a number of bottleneck key technologies.
It is forecast that the place will become one of the most concentrated areas for AI enterprises in Shanghai and even in the whole country.
