The autumn/winter 2020 Shanghai Fashion Week will join hands with Tmall to launch the first global "online fashion week", with the seven-day show starting on March 24, according to the organizing committee.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, Seoul Fashion Week has been canceled and many brands launched runway shows online during the earlier Milan and Paris fashion weeks.

Shanghai Fashion Week will introduce the newest collections from over 100 brands online for the first time due to the epidemic, said the organizers. Collections including men's and women's ready to wear, children's wear and accessories will debut online during the Shanghai Fashion Week Special Edition – Tmall Cloud Fashion Week.

Some international clothing brands have also made corresponding adjustments.

"Compared with the traditional fashion week, this year's Shanghai event has brought in a lot of innovation. Cloud shows not only avoid the risk of crowds, but also save space, labor and other costs," a person from a participating brand said.

He added that the Shanghai fashion week is not cancelled or postponed, which greatly relieved participants.

Reports say that "Asia's largest original fashion season", the Mode of Shanghai Clothing Accessories Exhibition will also move to a cloud online platform. According to the person in charge of fashion week, the organizing committee is searching for new solutions to the current situation. At the same time, 100 brands will be on the second floor Tmall's flagship store to open "cloud flash shop" to bring consumers at home an experience close to "real stores".

The brands will be able to live stream sample garments of their autumn/winter collections and sell items from their new spring/summer collections on Alibaba's Tmall marketplace in a bid to help reduce inventory pressure.

The organizers will also allow adjustments to trade shows during fashion week.
