An online video signing ceremony for key industrial projects was held in Jiading district, Shanghai, on March 11. Business leaders from home and abroad used video links to sign 105 contracts with total investment of 27.62 billion yuan ($3.94 billion).

This event marks the second time centralized contract signing has been done since Jiading district signed 98 contracts worth 34 billion yuan Jan 4, 2020.

"We switched the mode from 'face to face' to 'screen to screen', and actively carried out online investment promotion," said Zhang Xi, secretary of Jiading district committee. "The introduction of a large number of high-quality projects will play a positive role in promoting the optimization of Jiading's industrial structure, the improvement of Shanghai's energy level and the improvement of people's well-being. It will also inject new momentum to overcoming the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic and achieve the annual target for economy development. We will make every effort to ensure that the contracted projects will be started and put into operation as soon as possible."

The 105 projects signed mainly center on emerging industries, among which 69 are in  integrated circuits (IC) and the internet of things. New energy vehicles and automotive intelligence, high-performance medical equipment and precision medicine, intelligent manufacturing and robotics account for 66 percent of the total.

Jiading district has been making every effort to promote the high-quality development of key industrial projects, focusing on building a trillion-yuan-level industrial cluster of automobiles, accelerating the expansion of two emerging industries in order to improve its advantages, characteristics and strengths.

According to the industry positioning and development goals, to the end of 2020, Jiading will strive to achieve industry output value of 500 billion yuan, the main industry of IC more than 20 billion yuan and to form a complete set of high-performance medical equipment and a precision medical industry whose size will exceed 28 billion yuan.
