Gong Zheng, Shanghai's acting mayor, held a video call with Pablo Isla, chairman and CEO of Inditex, a large Spanish corporation and the world's largest fashion group, on June 3, to discuss its continued involvement in the city's new online economy.

"Shanghai is now speeding up the construction of an international consumer city with the goal of building itself into an international trade center," Gong said.

"We are vigorously developing the new online economy, and the May 5 Shopping Festival we held has greatly promoted the recovery in consumption."

Shanghai will make every effort to foster a law-based, internationalized and convenient business environment, and encourage all kinds of enterprises to achieve greater development in Shanghai, Gong added.

Gong also expressed his wish that Inditex can give full play to its advantages, and seize the opportunity of the new online economy. He also invited Inditex to participate in this year's China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Isla thanked China and Shanghai for their strong support of Inditex during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"China's online market has great potential," Isla said. "Inditex is full of confidence in Shanghai's long-term development and will actively participate in the CIIE."

According to Isla, Inditex will promote online and offline integrated development and adhere to the concept of sustainable development to provide better experiences for consumers.
