North Bund to become headquarters and foreign economy center

Hongkou district in Shanghai released an industrial investment guide for the North Bund area on June 11.

According to the guide, North Bund will focus on building a headquarters economy and a foreign economy center, gathering enterprise headquarters, international organizations and institutions with global influence.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, the North Bund will strive to become the core area for high-end shipping services with the Shanghai International Shipping Center and for asset management and fintech with the Shanghai International Finance Center.

North Bund, a new cluster of foreign enterprises in Shanghai, has helped Hongkou district attract foreign investment worth $1.28 billion in 2019, according to Hongkou District Commission of Commerce.

At present, more than 4,700 shipping enterprises and nearly 40 shipping organizations have gathered in North Bund. Hongkou district has nearly 1,600 financial institutions and enterprises, with assets under management exceeding 5 trillion yuan ($706 billion).
