Shanghai pledges to inherit the core spirit of the Party
Shanghai, where the Communist Party of China was \r\nfounded in 1921, will inherit the core spirit of the Party and fulfill \r\nits original missions, the city's Mayor Gong Zheng said at a news \r\nconference held by the publicity department of the Central Committee of \r\nthe CPC in Beijing on April 22.
"The core spirit of the Party has been deeply integrated into \r\nShanghai's culture. The glorious revolutionary course the Party has gone\r\n through, achievements in history it has made and great spirit that the \r\nParty owns over the past century, have been fully embodied in the city,"\r\n Gong said.
"Led by the Party, Shanghai which used to be filled with foreign \r\nconcessions and suffering from plunder and war has become a modern \r\nsocialist international metropolis in the east of the world, stepping \r\ninto the future."
In terms of the rich cultural resources related to the Party's \r\nhistory in the city, Zhou Huilin, the city's publicity chief, said the \r\ngovernment has carried out in-depth publicity and education across the \r\ncity on heritage protection. According to recent research, there are 612\r\n related cultural ruins and memorials in Shanghai.
"We will systematically promote exploration, protection, research, art production, and tourism in the field," Zhou said.
According to Zhou, forums on the Party's history will also be \r\norganized in May. A total of 124 books regarding the topic have been \r\npublished so far.
The government also launched the "Shanghai Through Our Eyes" series \r\non Apr 8 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist \r\nParty of China this year. The series focuses on 100 foreigners working \r\nand living in the city and paints a picture of China's development \r\nthrough their perspectives.
