To better stimulate the fashion industry and boost consumer spending, Changning district in East China's Shanghai city – together with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce – launched Shanghai Fashion Customization Week on May 20, local media reported.
GRACE CHEN, TADASHI SHOJI, MEJJY and two other brands launched new products with a 15-minute fashion catwalk show at the opening ceremony for the week.
Besides clothing, the event will also showcase customized brands covering accessories, furniture, floristry, food, beauty and other lifestyle areas.
Zhang Wei, deputy secretary of the Changning district Party committee, said at his opening speech that the district was promoting the construction as a demonstration area for global product debuts in Shanghai. It was doing so by introducing support policies to attract new brands, new business complexes as well as product launch events.
Shanghai has outlined a goal of accelerating its development as an international consumption hub in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).
The second edition of Shanghai's May 5 Shopping Festival – where merchants encourage customer spending through new products, shopping discounts and promotions – was launched on May 5.
The Shanghai Fashion Customization Week is also regarded an important part of the grand shopping festival.
