Shanghai's sixth government-enterprise roundtable meeting – for commerce and trade enterprises – convened online in East China's Shanghai on June 9, and was chaired by Vice-Mayor Zong Ming.
Its aim was to resolve difficulties being encountered by the city's commerce and trade enterprises while returning back to normal work and production operations and boost their confidence to continue to develop themselves in the metropolis.
During the meeting, Gu Jun, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, gave a briefing on the city's policies for accelerating the recovery and revitalization of its economy.
Senior executives from Bailian Group, General Mills, LVMH, Estee Lauder, L'Oreal and Uniqlo participated in the online discussions.
Zong Ming said that Shanghai is a city that thrives on commerce, with consumption contributing to more than 60 percent of its economic growth. In 2021, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Shanghai increased by 13.5 percent to reach 1.81 trillion yuan ($268.65 billion), ranking first among cities in China.
She called on the enterprises to maintain their confidence and make good use of platforms such as Shanghai's shopping festival and the China International Import Expo.
