Shanghai's ninth government-enterprise roundtable meeting – for Italian companies – was convened online by the city in East China on June 14, chaired by Vice-Mayor Zong Ming.

The discussion was especially held for Italy-funded enterprises in Shanghai, to enable them to understand and resolve their needs and difficulties during the period of the resumption of work and production.

During the meeting, Gu Jun, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, gave a briefing on the city's policies for accelerating the recovery and the revitalization of its economy.

Representatives from the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, as well as senior executives from six Italy-based enterprises – Stellantis, Comau, UFI Filter, Bracco Sine, Luxottica and Florentia Village – participated in the online meeting.

They talked about in-house COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures and gave details about  progress in resuming production, as well as expressing their confidence and determination to keep investing in Shanghai.

Zong Ming pointed out that foreign trade between China and Italy reached $73.95 billion last year, a new record.

She said Shanghai was widely regarded as an important bridge for friendly exchanges between China and Italy and that commerce and trade between the city and Italy was getting bigger and bigger. Italian-funded enterprises have become an important force in Shanghai's urban development, Zong added.

Zong said that Shanghai was making every effort to bring production and life back to normal. She urged Italian groups in Shanghai to take a proactive part in its economic revitalization.
