Ever since its opening in East China's Shanghai, Global Harbor (Shanghai) has maintained its top position among the city's most popular shopping centers.

With a daily footfall of over 100,000 people and an annual visitor count of 35 million, it generated massive sales of around 15.5 billion yuan ($2.13 billion) last year.

Despite an initially unfavorable location, Ding Zuohong, head of Yuexing Group – one of the top 500 non-State-owned companies in China engaged in construction and operation of large commercial complexes – saw the value of Global Harbor when it opened its doors for business in September 2013.

He emphasized its role as a shopping mall and a public living room, providing comprehensive services to meet people's every needs.

With its meticulous design, blending a classical European style and commercial elements, Global Harbor stood out and gained recognition quickly.

It offers diverse businesses, including upscale dining, leisure, fitness and hotel services. What's more, the proportion of experiential sectors such as specialty dining and fashion retail has grown, with nearly 10 percent of its outlets having annual brand updates.

In contrast to other shopping malls, Global Harbor is perfectly positioned for the general public and all age groups. It aims to attract upscale brands and foster interaction across sectors with the ultimate goal of promoting longer stays and value conversions.

Thanks to the Fifth China International Import Expo's overflow effect, a cruise-themed commercial space in Global Harbor recently became a hit with young folks because of its exotic ambiance.

Moving forwards, plans are for Global Harbor to become a business gateway connecting China with the international market – with ample room for growth in brand introductions, exports, innovation and more.
