French tire giant Michelin commenced the second phase of its expansion project in the Minhang Economic and Technological Development Zone in East China's Shanghai on Nov 20.

Its Shanghai factory, established in 2001, stands as one of Michelin's primary tire production facilities in the country and serves as the sole production base in the East China region.

The first phase of the expansion project is set to be completed by the end of 2026, by which time the factory's annual production capacity for high-performance radial car tires is projected to surge to an impressive 9.5 million units.

Building on that, the second phase of the project aims to further expand the output capacity for high-performance and high-value radial car tires. Meanwhile, it seeks to introduce cutting-edge technology and practices to ensure efficient, clean and flexible production.

The expansion project is said to underscore Michelin's commitment to innovation, sustainability and is expected to meet the growing demand for high-quality tires in the Chinese market.
