First shipment of Chilean cherries arrives in Shanghai
In something of a landmark fruit logistics event, a fleet of refrigerated trucks carrying Chilean cherries arrived on Jan 21 at Waigaoqiao Port in the Pudong New Area, in East China's Shanghai.
After a 20,000-mile journey on a refrigerated cargo ship, the cherries reached Shanghai Pudong International Container Terminals on the evening of Jan 20. They were then swiftly unloaded and transferred to the nearby cold chain logistics base at Waigaoqiao Port.
This marked the first shipment of Chilean cherries for 2024 in the region, especially brought in to enhance the dining experience for Chinese consumers during the upcoming Spring Festival.
The shippers of Joyvio, a premium brand of Chilean cherries – which have been showcased at the China International Import Expo, or CIIE for six years in a row – adopted a streamlined approach this time.
After unloading at the port, the cherries were directly transported in whole containers to stores and warehouses, ensuring a rapid presence both online and onsite.
Meanwhile, a new direct shipping route to import cherries from Chile has been established in Shanghai, promising a shorter logistics chain to deliver Chilean cherries promptly to Chinese consumers.
The effective operation of the cold chain logistics base is widely said to play a pivotal role in preserving the crispness, sweetness and freshness of the imported cherries. This significantly contributes to the abundance of imported fruits available during the Chinese New Year season.
