The Shanghai 2024 Spring Consumer Season kicked off with pizzazz at the outdoor square of the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower in East China's Shanghai on March 2 and the fun runs to the end of April.

The event, designed to boost consumer activity and revitalize the market, features a range of exciting initiatives and promotions. Here are some highlights:

Auto sector renewal

The Shanghai Automotive Consumer Carnival, part of the Spring Consumer Season, showcases the latest luxury and new energy vehicles from brands like SAIC Group, Tesla, NIO, BYD, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.

Customers get the chance to place on-site orders with special discounts and benefits, while local sales outlets are introducing various promotional activities at the same time.

Home appliances bonanza

Watch out, a new round of subsidies for green smart home appliances in the city is in effect from March 30 to Dec 31. Some 16 categories of first-level energy-efficient home appliances – including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and more – are eligible for subsidies.

Shoppers can enjoy a one-time subsidy of 10 percent of the normal transaction price, capped at 1,000 yuan ($138.90).

Beauty sector takes a bow

As International Women's Day fast approaches, major commercial districts have introduced enticing promotions on cosmetics, clothing and accessories. Events such as makeup festivals and fashion shows have been organized in districts like East Nanjing East Road, Middle Huaihai Road, Lujiazui and Xujiahui, offering discounts on beauty and fashion products.

Spring outings, flower appreciation

In a bid to combine commerce, tourism, culture and sports, the city's commercial enterprises have arranged a variety of experience activities related to spring outings and spring markets. For instance, the Changning district coordinated with the 2024 Shanghai Women's Half Marathon, hosting the Half Marathon Women's Shopping activity.

Additionally, Baoshan district joined forces with the Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival, providing a map of cherry blossom viewing spots and introducing limited-edition creative products for the cherry blossom season.
