Since the onset of the rainy season on June 19, East China's Shanghai has experienced almost daily heavy downpours, leading to widespread humidity issues.

As a result, dehumidifiers and other moisture-control products have seen a surge in sales, with residents attempting to eradicate the uncomfortable dampness.

Sales of dehumidifiers in home appliance stores have increased by a whopping 90 percent compared with the same period last year.

A Ms Zhou, a local resident, bought  two dehumidifiers during the "618" shopping festival to cope with the persistent dampness.

She said that the devices significantly reduced indoor humidity from 90 percent to 50 percent overnight, making her living conditions much more comfortable.

Retailers like Suning.com have noted a 50 percent increase in customer inquiries about dehumidifiers and related products since the rainy season began. High-end dehumidifiers with drying functions, priced over 3,000 yuan ($412), now account for over 20 percent of sales, showing a significant year-on-year increase.

In addition to dehumidifiers, emergency moisture-control products such as dehumidifying bags and anti-mold packs have also become popular.

Convenience stores have also reported a rise in sales of disposable items like rain shoe covers, which have become essential for many young professionals navigating the wet conditions.
