The 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, or WAIC, which concluded in East China's Shanghai on July 6, is widely said to have achieved unprecedented success.

The event attracted over 300,000 visitors, nearly doubling last year's attendance. It assisted 132 procurement groups to generate 126 new project demands with an estimated procurement value of 15 billion yuan ($2.06 billion).

Additionally, 24 major industrial projects were signed up, with a total investment topping 40 billion yuan.

The conference, themed "Governing AI for Good and for All", brought together 1,300 industry leaders, exhibitors and delegations from over 50 countries and regions.

Attendees included nine Turing Award, Fields Medal and Nobel Prize winners, along with 88 academicians from China and abroad.

Spanning over 52,000 square meters, the exhibition displayed more than 1,500 products from over 500 companies, including 50 new product launches.

Highlights included nearly 100 large language models and 18 humanoid robots. The event also featured a 6,000 sq m "full-domain connection hall" for project incubations, procurements and investment matchmaking.

The closing ceremony witnessed the signing of several key AI projects and the inauguration of two municipal-level public service platforms –  further solidifying Shanghai's position as a global AI innovations hub.
