Pudong New Area debuts international consumption season
The Pudong New Area in East China's Shanghai inaugurated the first Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season at the Taikoo Li Qiantan on July 12.
The initiative is designed to attract more foreign visitors and stimulate tourism and spending throughout the summer.
The season boasts 177 special activities across five sectors – commerce, tourism, culture, sports and exhibitions. The events will be hosted in 46 key commercial areas, attractions and venues throughout the district.
A major highlight is the debut of new consumer spaces, including Wintastar Shanghai, the world's biggest indoor ski resort. The facility features a nearly 1,200-meter ski trail and about 20 different snow entertainments, including a special indoor snow train.
Another notable development is the Red Rock Center, originally the Russian Pavilion in the Shanghai Expo Culture Park. Set to reopen in August as a performing arts center, it will host performances by popular Asian and Western artists later this year.
Additionally, Pudong will introduce three temporary pedestrian streets in the Lujiazui and Qiantan areas in July, September and October. The streets will aim to offer vibrant markets, light shows and music perfomances, creating dynamic new shopping scenarios.
For transit visa-free passengers at Pudong International Airport, customized tours have been developed. These include the modern Shanghai speed tour (Maglev train + Yuyuan Garden) and the Shanghai-style commercial tour (City God Temple + Bicester Village outlet mall) – aiming to convert passenger flows into economic growth.
