Shanghai sets sail with first international cruise festival
Shanghai is said to be making waves with its first-ever International Cruise Festival, which kicked off on Aug 2 and will run until Aug 31.
The month-long celebration highlights the city's thriving cruise industry and its welcoming business environment for the thriving sector.
The festivities commenced with China Cruises' Haipai Cruise Style Show, held at the historic old wharf in Huangpu district.
The special event, a joint effort between cruise operator China Cruises and the district, boasts three exhibitions – a tribute to the 180th anniversary of the birth of artist Wu Changshuo, a captivating cruise photography showcase and an impressive collection of cruise ship models.
Visitors will be treated to an array of Wu Changshuo's masterpieces, accompanied by intricate models and striking photos from major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises and Blue Dream Cruises.
Highlights include a model of a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) merchant ship from the China Maritime Museum, which offers a glimpse into the historic maritime trade between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

The old wharf serves as the heart of the festival, inviting art and culture lovers to immerse themselves in the exhibits. From Aug 10, an outdoor photo area will open, allowing guests to capture cruise-themed memories against scenic backdrops.
To add to the fun, cruise operator Blue Dream Cruises will host a special themed market on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street from Aug 9 to 11. The market will feature cruise promotions and gourmet experiences, making it a must-see for cruise enthusiasts and food lovers alike.
To enhance the festival's appeal, Bailian Group, one of Shanghai's leading State-owned enterprises, is distributing millions of Bailian Gift Cards to cruise ticket holders.
The gesture will add momentum to what is already a dynamic and colorful extravaganza.
