2024 World Design Cities Conference set to open
The 2024 World Design Cities Conference will be held from Sept 27 to 30, with the main venue located at the Shanghai World Expo Urban Best Practices Area.
The conference aims to establish a global platform for design collaboration and exchange, featuring nearly 50 meetings and forums, including an opening ceremony and an international design forum.
Renowned design organizations such as Cumulus, top design schools like the Royal College of Art, and leading companies including Aston Martin, Jimmy Choo, and COMAC will participate alongside distinguished academicians, masters, and designers from both domestic and international arenas. They will share insights on diverse design philosophies, cutting-edge technologies, and market trends.
The exhibition will cover an area of 20,000 square meters, showcasing nearly 500 brands, including 70 percent considered to be emerging brands, all aimed at promoting fashion consumption through high-quality design.
Highlights include TCab Tech's eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft), the IM L6 sedan featuring a semi-solid-state battery and digital chassis, Huawei's trifold smartphone, and the color contact lens brand Moody.
During the conference, the shortlist for the 2024 "Shanghai Design 100+" global competition will be announced. Additionally, the conference will provide a platform for industry supply and demand matching, unveiling creative design projects such as the "Boke Digital Design Center" and "Geely Shanghai Design Center", with total investments expected to exceed 30 billion yuan ($4.25 billion).
