Rising digital economy improves delivery network
The digital economy continues to boost consumption, as shown by the increasing number of daily parcels on major e-commerce platforms and the upgrading of distribution networks.
Statistics from Shanghai-based e-commerce site Pinduoduo show that by the end of March, the average daily delivery volume of the platform was about 50 million. Since May, the number has exceeded 65 million.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, food delivery platform Meituan delivered 56.22 million orders to hospitals across the country, and attracted 791,500 workers to become delivery drivers.
For small and medium-sized enterprises and rural farmers in industrial belts, the e-commerce delivery network brings them unprecedented opportunities. Cainiao, Alibaba's logistics arm, has connected 145 industrial belts across the country and directly linked more than 45,000 factories with consumers.
Since the beginning of 2020, e-commerce companies have upgraded their delivery services and created a more inclusive distribution mode.
Meituan recently announced that it would upgrade its opening strategy to provide digital support to 10 million stores, and continue to provide three million jobs to society.
